Born in France. Entered service at New York, enlisting as a Private. Served in Co. I throughout the war. Won the Congressional Medal of Honor for his valour at the Wilderness, Virginia on the 5 May, 1864.

Rank and organization: Sergeant, Company I, 62d New York Infantry.
Place and date: At Wilderness, Va., 5 May 1864.
Entered service at: New York.
Birth: France.
Date of issue: 14 January 1890.
Citation: Voluntarily rushed back into the enemy's lines, took the colors from the color sergeant, who was mortally wounded, and, although himself wounded, carried them through the fight.
