Enlisted
Under the President’s Call [12
June 1861] To the Volunteers. Capt. PHILLIP SMITH was in
New York last week, and secured a place in the Anderson Zouave Regiment, (Col.
RIKER) for a company of Volunteers, and he and others are now engaged in
raising the company, which will be enlisted under the President’s call for the
term of three years, independent of the State call of April 16th. The Ladies,
from six Churches in New York city, have selected this regiment to uniform. The
men are to be armed with Enfield Rifles. It will probably be as fine a Regiment
as will go from the State. Journal & Republican (Lowville, NY), Wednesday, June 12, 1861,
